So hibs keep rejecting offers from Celtic, not willing to be pushed over as easy as the past suggests. Does he and celtic just decide to sit it out until January? Hibs get nowt? John goes to celtic and we fail to profit at all? Celtics offers seem to suggest this and are merely offering a goodwill gesture with the intentions of not being held to ransom. Our pre season transfer budget also looks to suffer. £2m is a good pay day for hibs from celtic for an unproven player outside of Scotland, also given south of the border they don't seem to be kicking the door down. He hasn't really shone internationally either for us to be demanding an incredible amount or am I missing something?

Yes he’s picked up a mom at international level& we would get another full season of John McGinn so it’s not nowt? If we get into Europe next year or progress to group stages this year it’s more than Celtic are offering so that’s the budget sorted. he's worth every penny of £4m so pay Celtic up or forget it we don’t care GGTTH.

So now we wait to see if we get to the group stages for our purse? That's a shocking idea.
Mcginn as much as I would love to say he has, has definitely not proved himself internationally even with a friendly MOM, apart from that game at pittodrie, tell me where and what stage he's SHONE internationally. let's get real before we go down the England's "It's coming home" road. As for keeping him for another season, do you want to rely on a player who's heart is now somewhere else? We're now stalling on bringing in people to bolster, were still at the replacing and levelling stage. I love John as a player and would be delighted to hold onto him, given he wanted to be there.

3.) 25 Jul 2018 19:26:18
I agree with Tomo. I get your drift Tam but I'd rather see McGinn at ER next year. A huge change in midfield all at once could be damaging to us. If we keep McGinn then we'll have a more gentle transition of midfielders with less disturbance to the team as a whole. Yes we'd lose the cash left over from St mirrens due's but what we stand to gain in league position and Europe hopefully helps counter that loss, as well as having the benefit of the player too of course. Who knows, he might even sign an improved and extended contract! lol yes ok, dreaming a bit on that last point.

I would agree with you there with regards to unsettling the midfield and as i said I would love to be able to keep him but chances being he would be an unsettled member, the whole situation is very publicised now. I'm more just looking at the probability factor of the situation. We thought he'd be sitting considering a few more options and that our valuation would be met, clearly not. I'm sure given the eventual outcome of it all we would have benefited from the sale and time to replace and strengthen. I'm only speaking from a personal frustration of the whole situation. Great guy who deserves a lot in my eyes however relying on a run in Europe for cash with a player who's emptied the locker already just isn't how it should be.

As long as we have Lennon and Dempster at the helm, we have to and can trust their decisions though.

6.) 25 Jul 2018 22:28:58
I agree with the above we trust dempster I think we're being shroud mullan is a far better technical player than McGinn but I would hold on a wee bit longer and get the £3m which will happen gone are the days where we are a feeder club .

7.) 25 Jul 2018 23:37:17
How many stick outs can you pick from any Scotland team recently Robertson tierney that's about it McGinn as not looked out of place and will only get better, bottom line if Celtic offer £2m and 33% goes to st Mirren we are not selling keep him for another here and reap the benefits from his talents and hopefully rewards we are not struggling for cash so I don’t get the problem. if Celtic don’t think he’s worth the price why would that unsettle him for coming year? He gets his head down and knows he’s a free agent next May.

We're damned if we do damned if we don't!
I'd rather however this whole situation was sorted last week and I'd be attending tonight's game watching Scott Allan and Ryan Christie in our midfield alongside Mallan as opposed to John McGinn. Celtic want SJM, we want Allan and I'm pretty sure Leanne could of negotiated Christie as part of the package she's been a revelation so far. I'd love to keep SJM who wouldn't? However morals in football cost money and despite agreeing in principle with our stance we're missing an opportunity to cease two quality players for the price of one and losing crucial time in the transfer market in the process. Tonight's game is massive and our squad is thin on the ground! GGTTH.

Well said obanhibee.

10.) 26 Jul 2018 17:01:23
I wouldn’t mind hibs selling for 2.5m and just ending this saga. SJM is class but no one player is worth the hassle. And as above having Allan here settled in wanting to be here is worth more in my eyes than the extra 500k and all the hassle around it. With the money in the bank we could easily get another quality striker in and also strengthen that shakey defence.

11.) 26 Jul 2018 17:22:46
Lots of positive talk there but we can't make the tic give us more money and we can't make them give us players either. We have to sit tight. I'm on the side of the board.

12.) 27 Jul 2018 11:31:27
I don't necessarily disagree with you aklistair and historically the board have been shrewd when it comes to transfers and LD has taken us to the next level NO DOUBT. I'm still just a bit sore over losing Dylan for nothing who I've no doubt will be getting touted at 8-10M come the end of this season such is the inflation in the English market. Mallan looks quality and has slipped in seemlessly but to lose a talent like SJM for nothing would be heartbreaking after Dylan and I think would be folly. IF MCGINN PLAYS LIKE LAST NIGHT EVERY WEEK could we even put a price on him? We need to ensure Boyle is nailed down on a LIFE contract as well, the most under-rated player in Scotland! His pace and work rate is just phenomenal! ENJOY LAST NIGHT HIBEES WE CAN DO THIS. GGTTH.

That dismal performance had nothing to do with the pitch. Defending was absolutely terrible. We are lacking bite in the midfield and unless kamberi plays we have absolutely nothing up top. He creates for maclaren because without someone there to tee him up maclarens guff. Shaw is heartless and needs to be farmed out, fortunately for him we don't have the depth. Lennon needs a full compliment to pick from to find a starting 11 that will compete or come the winter break we will be struggling for the top 6. It's still early days but I fear his mentality when things aren't going right so the sooner we can sort it out the better. Hopefully Milligan provides what we lack in midfield and this agyepong can be a good attacking provider.

He would probably be a good link between midfield and forwards but then it's not really an area we need to strengthen considering the players who have just came in. I also think there's a reluctance for some reason to come back to hibs.

I'm my opinion I feel they are struggling to strengthen last season's side. To strengthen we need to be better, I don't feel we are. We've lost 2 fantastic central midfielders and brought in 2 "decent" replacements, one of which is only here for 6 months. We've built on nothing from last year. I'm not knocking any of the staff involved in recruitment as it can't be easy to find the sort of players to replace the ones we lost and I can imagine they are all trying like bears to bring in a couple more. We have been twiddling our fingers over the John Mcginn saga to long, there might be money available but time is not.
