Rumours from the other side of Pennines is that Gary Hooper is back in light training. He is out of contract end of season, needs game time somewhere. if we could afford.

Maybe on a pre contract for next season but what use is he to us right now when we need to turn out season around?

Can't afford to wait a month or two for him to regain match fitness and form.

He'd certainly be a marquee signing but agree with above let's no let the heart rule the head, right now he's not what we need. Signed on a pre-contract and fully fit for the next campaign absolutely but right now we need players ready to go straight into action and hopefully fire us to European football.
In the current financial climate and our restricted finances I'm surprised we've not ventured more into the pre-contract world. I'll concede Danny Swanson for example didn't turn out to be the player we hoped for us but I don't think we should be put off. I'll confess I'm jealous Rangers look like they've brought in Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones on these deals, two I'd of taken happily.

Pre-contracts would be good, unfortunately we have neither the money or a manager willing to utilise them.
Lennon doesn't seem to like them at all and prefers to work in real time, which kinda goes against all the stuff he's said about building for a strong future.

January is a rubbish time to have to sign players and it makes signing quality difficult, forcing us to look at loans because he'd rather have a player now than prepare forthe following season.
So we get mixed results for 4-5 months an then look at signing players that we've brought in already or lose out because other teams pay more for the form the player showed with us.

I thought Swanson was decent - whenever he came into the side he showed spirit and ability (utterly destroyed Brown at Easter Rd at the end of last season for the whole time he played), but there must have been more to it behind the scenes.

I'd like to see Gauld come in but it's unusual for the press to have a story of interest at all, it's never how we do business, so I'm sceltical there's much in it.
